The Tennessee Republican Party has unearthed a potentially damaging bombshell regarding House Speaker Jimmy Naifeh.
The party accuses Jimmy Naifeh of lying in a press release describing himself as a concealed carry permit holder nine days after catching heat from the gun rights community for engaging in some inspired parliamentary maneuvering in order to to scuttle a piece of legislation which would have concealed the identities of concealed permit holders.

"Repeal the Second Amendment," The Chicago Tribune editorialized. "The Supreme Court on Thursday all but ensured that even more Americans will die," said The New York Times. "[T]he Second Amendment protects the right to bear arms only in relation to service in a state militia." added The Washington Post. Those are a few of many editorial expressions of disgust from the mainstream media over the Supreme Court`s ruling.

The founders were absolutely right in that individuals need to keep and bear arms in their homes and if needed on their person to protect their lives, family and property. And given the events that shaped our nation (which most of us seem to forget), we also may need them to protect us from the tyranny of our own government.

Walt Disney World fired a security guard on Monday after he protested the company`s decision not to allow people with concealed weapons permits to keep guns in their cars on Disney property.
It seems if you work for Disney, you give up not only your Second Amendment rights, but your First Amendment rights as well.

Arizonans without state permits will not be able to carry loaded guns in their cars. Gov. Janet Napolitano on Monday vetoed legislation that would have made cars and trucks the same as someone`s home, where you could have a gun anywhere, visible or not.

The court ruled that a blanket ban on handguns is unconstitutional, but D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty and other Washington officials want to keep in place a prohibition on semiautomatic handguns — those in which a bullet clip is inserted into the gun`s grip.

As D.C. prepares to begin accepting applications for some handgun permits, police can’t find tens of thousands of handguns already registered in the city. Should we trust the D.C. government to fairly implement a new registration program when they cannot competently run the old one?

Americans cherish their constitutional right to keep and bear arms, even when they come to Canada. The Supreme Court’s decision does not eliminate reasonable restrictions on firearms possession and ownership. D.C.’s licensing and registration provisions, for example, were left intact. The next fight between gun-rights advocates and the smelters will be over the definition of reasonable.

Citizens in the District of Columbia had plenty of reason to celebrate over July 4th weekend. In addition to our nation’s birthday, countless barbeques, and a fabulous fireworks display, citizens of D.C. could finally enjoy their rights as set forth in the Bill of Rights.

The “God Not Guns” coalition is predictably upset about the U.S. Supreme Court’s overturning the Washington, D.C., handgun ban. A project of the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, the “God Not Guns” coalition includes agencies of the United Methodist Church, Evangelical Lutheran Church, Presbyterian Church (USA), United Church of Christ, and the National Council of Churches, along with several Jewish groups. The American Humanist Association is also a member, suggesting a very wide definition of “god” in the name of opposing gun ownership and “gundamentalism.”

The operative clause of the Second Amendment — The right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed — was nearly erased from the Constitution in 1939 by a muddled and confusing Supreme Court opinion in United States v. Miller. But, apparently embarrassed by seven decades without a coherent explanation of the right celebrated during the Framing era as "the true palladium of liberty," the court rediscovered the Second Amendment.

Disney was blasted by the National Rifle Association after the company declared its property exempt from a new state law that allows Floridians to bring guns to work. "Disney is a prime offender when it comes to firing employees for exercising Second Amendment rights. There has never been any intention to exempt any part of Disney from the new law. We thought you`d like to see such arrogance," the NRA statement said.

Heller is merely the opening salvo in a series of litigations that will ultimately resolve what weapons and persons can be regulated and what restrictions are permissible. Near term, the court will also have to decide whether Second Amendment rights can be enforced against state and local governments. Despite those remaining hurdles, it`s fair to say the court`s blockbuster decision makes the prospects for reviving the original meaning of the Second Amendment substantially brighter. And given the unfolding presidential contest, it`s also fair to say that the court`s razor-thin majority conveys a crucial message: Judicial nominations matter.
