Massachusetts: House Votes to Send Governor Patrick’s Anti-Gun Bill Back to Committee

The Massachusetts House voted to send House Bill 4102, Governor Deval Patrick’s (D) anti-gun bill, back to the Joint Committee on the Judiciary for consideration.

Virginia: York County Expands Scope of Discharge Ban

At their June 15 meeting, the York County Board of Supervisors voted 5 to 0 to approve Ordinance No. 09-8(R3), adding additional sub-divisions to the list of places where the discharge of a firearm is prohibited while providing exceptions to law enforcement officers, animal wardens and game wardens in the line of duty, military personnel in the line of duty, the discharge of firearms on firing ranges or target ranges operating in conformance with the county’s zoning regulations, the discharge of a firearm in conjunction with a managed hunt to control the deer population pursuant to Code of Virginia section 29.1-529, and any discharge of a firearm in lawful defense of property or persons or to kill a dangerous or destructive animal.

On Wednesday, June 16, the State House passed Senate Bill 534 by a vote of 80 to 3. Also on Wednesday, by a vote of 88 to 3, the State House passed House Bill 556.

Delaware: Housing Reform Bill Passes in Committee!

On June 16, by a unanimous 5 to 0 vote, the Delaware House Administration Committee approved House Substitute 1 to House Bill 357. Sponsored by State Representative John Atkins (D-41) and State Senator Joe Booth (R-19), HS1 for HB357 would prohibit public housing authorities operating within Delaware from regulating, prohibiting or restricting a tenant from lawfully owning or possessing a firearm or ammunition.

Kansas: Anti-Carry Proposal Defeated in Topeka!

On Tuesday, June 15 the Topeka City Council voted 5 to 3 to continue to allow the legal open carry of firearms in Topeka. This vote once again signifies the city council’s desire to protect the city’s residents from needless attacks on our basic Second Amendment rights.

Delaware: Right-to-Carry Permit Reform Headed to the Governor

On Wednesday, June 9, the Delaware Senate passed House Bill 226 by a vote of 21 to 0. An amendment in the bill would provide an affirmative defense to any person who is charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon and has filed for a renewal of their permit, but is still waiting for the Superior Court to act.

New Jersey: Attack on Your Right to Privacy Held in Committee

Thanks to your calls, A2595 sponsored by Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein (D-14), was discussed before the Assembly Judiciary Committee today but held without a vote. A2595 is a blatant attempt by entrenched New Jersey Politicians to strong arm citizens who oppose their re-election. If passed, A2595 would mandate that any “issue advocacy organization” classified under IRS Code as a 501(C) (3), 501 (C) (4) or 527 that engages in the election or defeat of any person to State or local elective office; the passage or defeat of any public question; or that provides political information on any candidate, must submit the names and addresses of contributors and their employers to the Election Law Enforcement Commission. The NRA will continue to watch this bill and work to ensure that our members privacy and right to participate within the legislative and political process without the threat of retaliation is protected.

Senate Bill 6005, micro-stamping legislation, is currently on the Senate calendar to be heard sometime today, Tuesday, June 15. S6005 would ban the sale of virtually all semi-automatic handguns in the state. Since the Senate could vote on this bill at any time today, it is critical that you call your State Senator immediately and urge them to OPPOSE Senate Bill 6005.

On Tuesday, June 15 at 6:00pm, the Topeka City Council will once again consider an ordinance which would ban the open carrying of firearms in Topeka, unless you have a concealed carry license. This proposed ordinance would once again be a direct violation of the states firearms preemption law.

Virginia: York County To Address Discharge Ban!

On Tuesday, June 15 the York County Board of Supervisors, located at 301 Main Street, will hold a public hearing on amendments to the County's firearm discharge ban. Ordinance No. 09-8(R-20), is an attempt by the Board of Supervisors under Sec. 16-7(a) of York County Code to place more county sub-divisions under the firearm discharge ban and add new language; Section 16-7(b), which will restrict the discharge of firearms within 1,000 feet of a school without prior notification to school administrators.

Highest Honor Bestowed On Park Ranger

As reported in a June 8 WashingtonPost.com article, the National Park Service this week honored Ranger Scott Emmerich as the recipient of this year’s “Harry Yount Award,” the agency’s highest honor for park rangers.
