HRGAC 2026 Steel Challenge Season Information & Frozen Fingers League

To HRGAC Steel Challenge Enthusiasts,

It’s time to start prepping those Steel Challenge guns for the 2026 season!

Attached you will find the 2026 Steel Challenge schedule and the HRGAC Steel Challenge rules. Please take the time to read them carefully, as there are a few subtle changes this year.

Frozen Fingers (FF) League

Frozen Fingers will be run similarly to previous years and will be limited to .22 Rimfire pistol or rifle.

  • Start Date: January 19, 2026

  • Time: 4:00 PM

  • Location: Range 1

  • Shooting will be done indoors with range lights on.

  • Since FF is held on Mondays, it will not interfere with Range 1 public shooting or Carry Class schedules.

League Sign-Up & Fees

Sign-up will be handled as in prior years by counting the number of classes you wish to shoot.

Examples:

  • Club Member:

    • First class: $30

    • Second class: $10

  • Non-Member:

    • First class: $70

    • Second class: $10

You may use only one gun per class per week.

Please stop by the HRGAC Club House and pay your league fees before the start of the league.
Bring your receipt to the range on the first shooting day so we can mark you as paid in the log.

Standings & Payouts

Standings will be posted as usual. Payouts are as follows:

  • Pistol:

    • 1st Place – $30

    • 2nd Place – $15

  • Rifle / PCC:

    • 1st Place – $30

    • 2nd Place – $15

Beginning with the second week, we will shoot any makeups from the previous week if possible. This should reduce the number of strings required on designated makeup weeks.

Spring & Summer Leagues

The Spring and Summer leagues will run according to the attached schedule and follow the same class structure, fees, and payouts as noted above.

Please review the Steel Challenge rules, as there is one new addition regarding target height. While we’ve had good compliance in the past, Acting RSOs and Timers will be paying closer attention to:

  • Sweeping

  • Fingers outside the trigger guard

  • Proper movement during jam clearing

These measures are to ensure we all continue to enjoy the sport safely.

Leagues will run continuously through the summer. Makeup weeks are included, but we will aim to minimize makeup shooting. After the first week of each league, we will shoot makeups from the prior week when possible. Each shooter may make up no more than two weeks per league.

Shooter Readiness

We can keep league nights running smoothly if everyone is ready when called:

  • Be aware when you are “on deck”

  • Magazines loaded

  • Eye and ear protection on

  • Do not enter the shooter’s box or place equipment on the table until directed by the RSO/Timer

Efficient flow will allow time for makeups or fun matches while daylight remains.

New Target Enhancement

This year, all targets will be angled 15 degrees from vertical to reduce the chance of fragment splash-back toward participants.

I look forward to another season of great fun, fellowship, and safe shooting.

If you have questions, feel free to reach out—but please read the rules first.

See you on the range!
